More information
Its origins date back to the 14th century, when the university of Tortosa decided to build it to defend the crossing of the Galera ravine, which marked the border between the territory under the jurisdiction of Tortosa and that of Ulldecona.
The building had serious structural problems from the start, especially in its roofing. This led to its gradual abandonment, until the roof collapsed in 1397. Nothing is recorded about it after that date until the 17th century, when the lower level was converted into a parish church dedicated to Saint Lawrence.
