Convent of Sant Salvador of Horta de Sant Joan

place 43596 Horta de Sant Joan, Tarragona, Catalonia

Pablo Picasso immortalised the mountain of Santa Bàrbara in some of the paintings he made during one of his stays in Horta de Sant Joan. At the foot of this hill, two kilometres from Horta de Sant Joan, stands the imposing convent of Sant Salvador d'Horta.

The construction of its church goes back to the time of the Templars. The complex is completed by a Renaissance cloister and a group of buildings from various periods (13th-17th centuries). The convent was inhabited by an important Franciscan community and in the 16th century Friar Salvador stayed here, who performed great miracles.
