The settlement stands at a strategic point controlling the Ebro, from where it overlooks the so-called Cubeta de Móra. The site, on the left bank of the Ebro on a large terrace or peninsula, was a stronghold controlling trade between the coast and the interior along the Ebro, where Greek and Phoenician colonisers sailed in search of grain, timber and metals.
