Mas de Burot
It is a solid, austere building, made of stone, wood and cane, with a rectangular main body of ground floor and one upper floor, and several extensions made later. The architectural ensemble is completed by an outer dry-stone enclosure, formerly used for raising livestock, sheep and above all goats, as Mas de Burot was a livestock farmhouse.
The most important space in the farmhouse is the kitchen-dining room with a stone-lined oven, on the ground floor, next to a manger and a pen. On the first floor there are three small rooms and adjoining chambers. The total built area is 270 m2.
In 1880 Vicent Roig Barberà, nicknamed el Negre, inherited from his father part of the estate in the Blanco valley. There he built the Mas del Negre, later known as Mas de Burot.
Mas de Burot is in the municipality of Horta de Sant Joan, within Els Ports Natural Park, surrounded by the wooded landscape of the Blanco valley and at the foot of the impressive Roques de Benet, one of the symbols of the municipality. The farmhouse is one of the best examples of the buildings that human activity has left over the centuries in the Els Ports massif, simple and with few notable stylistic elements, but forming an architectural and landscape legacy of great coherence.
