Val de Zafán Greenway
Between tunnels and viaducts
Start at the old Arnes station and pedal towards Horta de Sant Joan along the old railway line, through tunnels, viaducts and mountain landscapes at the foot of Els Ports.
Cycling among vineyards and olive groves
Continue towards Bot along a gentle route through farmland and old railway infrastructure, with Bot station as an ideal place to end the first day.
Optional detour: from Horta de Sant Joan you can visit the Convent of Sant Salvador before continuing the route.
The river among the mountains
Resume the Greenway from Bot and pedal to la Fontcalda, one of the most distinctive corners of the route, where the river Canaletes forces its way between rock walls beside the sanctuary and the hot-water spring.
Midday · El Pinell de Brai
Stop 2
A detour between wine and Modernisme
If you want to add a cultural stop to the route, detour to el Pinell de Brai to discover its Celler Cooperatiu, one of Cèsar Martinell's great Modernista works, with the characteristic ceramic frieze by Xavier Nogués.
End of the route beside the Ebro
End the day at the old Benifallet station, surrounded by Mediterranean landscape and now a service point for cycle tourists, ideal for resting and tasting local products.
The entire route on the map
The route can be savoured too: wines of the DO Terra Alta, Terra Alta PDO and Baix Ebre-Montsià PDO extra virgin olive oil, clementines from the Terres de l'Ebre and local cuisine that accompanies the route from the mountains to the Ebro.
