The experience
Olive growing and olive oil production are among the main agricultural activities of the Terra Alta comarca, with a centuries-old tradition and history and an almost unique variety that produces an oil with a characteristic flavour: the empeltre. The climate of the area is especially well suited to olive growing thanks to the combination of several climatic factors that make it possible.
In the Terra Alta you will find a good number of tourist activities related to the world of oil that will let you learn important aspects of oil culture and showcase the tradition, history, production and value of the product. Among the whole offer there are activities devoted to gastronomy, beauty, history or entertainment.
Visits to farms and mills are among the most common and traditional activities, as visitors travel from the field to the extraction of the oil at the oil mill. You will find gastronomic experiences in which you can appreciate the value of the product in the kitchen. Within traditional cuisine, a very interesting option is the "clotxa", a typical local dish that showcases the taste of the oil with other products of the area, an unforgettable experience for all the senses.
Other options stand out from the usual and combine tradition with innovation, giving oil a new profile in areas outside the kitchen, such as natural cosmetics workshops with olive oil and courses on making cosmetic preparations in which oil is the main ingredient.
Finally, there are also activities that look back to history, memory and tradition, fostering knowledge of the roots of the product, the oil tradition and the historical memory of the area linked to the Battle of the Ebro or to the Iberians, the first inhabitants of the territory.
