More information
The location of this military complex was chosen for its privileged position overlooking the whole Gulf of Sant Jordi. The Coastal Battery of l'Ametlla de Mar has three firing platforms for the howitzers and 4 entrances to the inner compound. Two entrances are on the main track and were used to supply the magazines and spare-parts rooms. The other two are at the ends of the firing platform and supplied ammunition to the howitzers. Behind the howitzers are two doors leading to a circular shaft where the spent shell casings were thrown.
The firing platform also has a drainage system dug into trenches to carry rainwater away to the sea. The inner complex served as an air-raid shelter in case of bombing. On the highest level there are several ventilation shafts and cisterns for collecting rainwater.
