Platja del Fangar

place 43580 Tarragona, Catalonia

Platja del Fangar is one of the most incredible landscapes of the Ebro Delta and of all the Terres de l’Ebre, often used as a film set. On a peninsula of 410 hectares, more than 7 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide, the area is also known as the desert of the Ebro Delta, as the only way to reach it is on foot, after a short crossing. For this reason it is one of the most visited hiking spots in the Delta.

The route calls for a few precautions, though. For example, bring extra clothes in case the wind picks up, wear suitable footwear for walking on sand, and take mosquito repellent, sun cream and water to stay hydrated on the way. Bear in mind too that from April to September access is limited, with only one stretch open in front of the beach.

The main icon of the beach, the Ebro Delta and all the Terres de l’Ebre is the Fangar Lighthouse, also known as La Faroleta, the only building you will see standing in this desert area... and the only shade you will find there!

Platja del Fangar, surrounded by dunes of great natural value, the largest and best preserved on the whole Catalan coast, is also known as the beach of mirages, as images can be seen on the water during the hours of strongest sun. Since Platja del Fangar can only be reached on foot, we recommend leaving your car at Platja de la Marquesa.
