More information
Illa de Buda covers about 1,100 hectares, of which about 250 are rice fields and the rest a wide range of natural habitats such as reedbeds and the so-called Calaixos, or coastal lagoons. This diversity of habitats makes Buda one of the areas of greatest natural interest in the whole Delta, and it is home to very large populations of waterbirds, both breeding and wintering.
Buda was formed in the 18th century and reached its greatest extent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Since then, it has shrunk considerably.
