FESTIVAL DE MÚSIQUES EN TERRES DE CRUÏLLA

The Festival de Músiques en Terres de Cruïlla (Music Festival in Crossroads Lands, FMC) is a festival that conveys the essence of music and dance in the heart of the Catalan-speaking territories.

The festival, which has already celebrated its 10th anniversary, has brought together in that time more than 200 artistic groups and more than 300 musicians, and has held ten technical conferences exploring the intersection between wind music, performed by the town band, and other artistic disciplines such as the visual arts, literature and dance, among others.

More information

One of the festival's central activities is the concert by the Banda de Música de l'Agrupació Musical Senienca, which has brought together artists from various disciplines from all the Catalan-speaking territories, with special representation of professionals and amateurs from the Franja. Some of the participating artists have been Claudio Sana, Franca Masu (Alghero), Carmen París (Aragon Franja), Pep Gimeno Botifarra and Andreu Valor (Valencia), Miquela Lladó (Balearic Islands), Quico el Cèlio, el Noi i el Mut de Ferreries, Montse Castellà and Joan Rovira (Terres de l'Ebre), among others. There have also been shows in which the band interacted with artists from other disciplines, such as dance, with Sònia Gómez, Raquel Gualtero, Roberto Olivan and Sol Picó, among others; or the visual arts, with Roser Gay, Ignasi Blanch, Elisabet Sabala and Sergi Palau.

After ten years, the FMC is changing course and focusing on wind music groups, both amateur and professional. The aim of this new stage is to promote, together with the bands' music schools, the amateur and professional musicians linked to them and their capacity for training, to generate synergies with other musical and cultural events and products, and to introduce into musical training aspects geared to creativity, innovation and the professionalisation of the people being trained.

The project will offer another way of presenting home-grown popular and traditional music to visitors and newcomers, in addition to the usual tourist and cultural offerings, with an emphasis on creating circuits across the Catalan-speaking territories, starting with Terres de l'Ebre, and giving priority to rural areas and the smallest villages, which can hardly ever have a cultural programme.
