River Sénia
The River Sénia has a special symbolism as it marks the administrative border, but not the cultural one, between Catalonia and Valencia, as established by King James I in 1240. It rises in the municipality of La Pobla de Benifassà (Baix Maestrat comarca), where small streams flow together with the waters of the Barranc del Salt, which descends from Fredes, and the Barranc de la Fou in the south of the Els Ports massif.
More information
In its middle course the waters are held back in the so-called Ulldecona reservoir, built in 1985 to regulate the flow and ease water shortages in times of drought.
After passing through the municipalities of La Sénia and Ulldecona, in the Montsià, and Rossell, Sant Rafel del Maestrat, Traiguera and Sant Jordi del Maestrat, in the Baix Maestrat, it flows into the Mediterranean at Platja Sol de Riu, between the municipalities of Alcanar and Vinaròs.
