Els Barrancs
The Barrancs area, in the municipality of Vilalba dels Arcs, is one of the Battle of the Ebro sites opened to visitors. It preserves remains of the trench that the Republican forces built in 1938 between this town and la Pobla de Massaluca. It is nearly 700 metres of ditch between 150 and 180 centimetres deep, with various features: rifle pits, shelters and evacuation lines. The stretches of stone parapet have been restored and the atmosphere of the period recreated with the sandbags that were used to protect the fighters and allow them to fire from a dominant position. You can also see the rifle pits, where soldiers with automatic weapons and hand grenades covered the front and made attack difficult.
