Les Fagedes dels Ports
Beech trees in the Els Ports massif are a surprise, as these are forests typical of colder latitudes and damper climates. They therefore stand at the limit of their geographical range and are among the southernmost in Europe.

This makes the beech woods of Els Ports very special, with particular features that set them apart from other European beech woods. They always face north, the dampest slope, and seek out the bottoms of ravines.
That is why we find the beech surrounded by cliffs and on steep slopes, whereas typical beech woods are usually found on flat ground.
