Clotxa

The clotxa is one of the most authentic expressions of the farmhouse cuisine of the Terres de l'Ebre, especially of the inland regions such as the Ribera d'Ebre or the Terra Alta.

Born as a practical meal for the fields, it consists of a round country loaf hollowed out and filled with simple, tasty ingredients such as sardine or smoked herring, garlic, onion and roasted tomato, dressed with extra virgin olive oil.

Beyond the dish itself, the clotxa is a collective experience that is kept alive through festivals and popular gatherings. The Festa de la Clotxa de Benifallet (January) and the Festa de la Clotxa de la Ribera d'Ebre (November) stand out, the best time to taste it in an authentic, shared setting.
