Platja dels Capellans

place Tarragona, Catalonia

Platja dels Capellans, in L’Ampolla, in the Baix Ebre comarca, is a small pebble beach where the surrounding pines seem to want to step into the sea to cool off. This, and the fact that it lies in a setting dominated by cliffs with jagged, angular outlines, make it a pretty beach with plenty of personality.

More information

Platja dels Capellans holds the ‘Blue Flag’ quality certificate and, although it has no services other than signposting, it is right next to the town centre of L’Ampolla. Platja dels Capellans is small, about 100 metres long by about 20 wide, and has a floor of small whitish pebbles leading into its calm waters.

Platja dels Capellans is easy to reach on foot, by bike or by car. Like some of the beaches and coves around it, it is part of the GR-92 hiking route, so it is common to see hikers on the cliff path along this stretch stopping to cool off. Having the GR-92 right next to it is not the only attraction of this little beach.

Its closeness to L’Ampolla, with a fishing port and a marina, means you often see small fishing and leisure boats. And if you love fishing, this is a good place to cast a line; if you like sailing, L’Ampolla has 433 moorings!
