DO Terra Alta Wine
Wines with the Terra Alta designation are the southernmost in Catalonia. It is believed that the Knights Templar began producing them in the 12th century.
Their cultivation is distinctive: they are grown on terraces of firm, deep, not very permeable soils, and the vines are pruned very short to achieve a low-lying "raser" style and make the most of the moisture in the ground.
The DO Terra Alta includes white wines from the garnatxa blanca and macabeu varieties, powerful yet light, high in alcohol and full-bodied; structured red wines with personality; and sweet wines and rancis.
