Itinerary 7. Serres de Cardó - el Boix / Cabrafeixet
El Perelló is a village famous, among other things, for producing excellent honeys. It is right here that our route will begin, with a drastic change of scenery from the rice fields of the Delta plain.

Driving along the TV-3022 road towards Rasquera, we cross a mosaic of rocky areas with olive and almond groves, as far as the junction where on the left a sign points to the Cabrafeixet rock paintings.
This area is especially attractive for birds of prey during migration, sharing the airspace with the various species of eagles that live in these expanses, such as the short-toed snake eagle or Bonelli's eagle. Migrating soaring birds such as black kites, European honey buzzards or white storks fly over this area, close to the coast, where it is easy for them to find thermals that save them energy on their migratory journey.
Other Mediterranean species can also be seen, such as the bee-eater, the red-legged partridge, the song thrush, the woodchat shrike or the turtle dove. At the edges of fields and tracks it is easy to see crested larks and woodlarks. A good number of warblers live in this area outside winter, such as the Dartford warbler, the Western Orphean warbler or the subalpine warbler. It is also a very good place to enjoy a good number of orchids after rainy springs, and a great diversity of butterflies.
Finally we head for the area from where we can walk to the interesting rock paintings, combining a historical visit and the observation of rock-dwelling birds as emblematic as the blue rock thrush or the black wheatear.
Phenology
The period between March and November is surely the best time to visit this area. From late August to mid-November if the aim is to enjoy the migration of soaring birds live. And from April to June if we want to focus on discovering the great diversity of species nesting in the area.
