The experience
Medieval Castle: As a frontier castle, from the Iberian period until the end of the 16th century, Ulldecona Castle has several building phases corresponding to different historical moments needed to understand the history of the territory. The guided visits explain this evolution with a historical journey through the architectural remains.
Rock paintings: The Ulldecona rock paintings were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, together with the other rock art shelters that make up the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula. There are 13 shelters in total, forming the most important group of Levantine-style rock art in all of Catalonia.
Thousand-year-old olive trees: Ulldecona has the largest known concentration of thousand-year-old olive trees in the world. The Arión area, with some 400 inventoried trees, two of them declared "Monumental Trees" by the Generalitat de Catalunya, is one of the most authentic examples of how thousand-year-old traditional farming has withstood the passage of time and merged with the traditional landscape. The guided visit includes an olive oil tasting.
