The experience
An 8 km bike ride along the ancient “Sirga” pathway from Riu a l'Ebre takes you to the start of “Sapinya” island. Located in the borough of Amposta, and less than 7 hectares in size, the environment here is pure delta in nature, boasting more than 130 species of listed plants. Its riverbank woodland, made up of species of willow and poplar, is of great importance and needs careful upkeep to ensure it is conserved. As regards fauna, the island attracts overwintering species of bird and cormorants and is an important roosting site.
This is where we leave the bikes to travel down river by kayak, the best way to appreciate the wonder of nature that is the Ebro on its way to the sea. We recommend following the more interesting right bank of the river on the trip down to the island of Gràcia. The trip comes to an end at the Riu a l’Ebre jetty.
