River Navigation
Want to live the great adventure of delving into the secrets of a river? Sailing the Ebro along the different stretches of Terres de l'Ebre on various kinds of boat, motorised or not, lets you enter lush riverside forests, the song of the birds and the human landscape that has grown up beside the river. River navigation was once at the heart of trade for the villages of the Ribera d'Ebre. The novel 'Camí de Sirga', by Jesús Moncada, a writer from Mequinenza, is one of the works that best describes the economic and social activity that took place around the Ebro.
Where to find it
Today, you can travel by motorboat the more than 100 kilometres of river between Ascó and Amposta. For the more adventurous, the more than 125 kilometres between Riba-roja d'Ebre and the river mouth can be explored by canoe or kayak. Another very attractive possibility is sailing on a llagut. Several municipalities have built boats that emulate the traditional llaguts and offer pleasant river trips. Tortosa with Lo Sirgador, Ascó with Lo Roget or Benifallet with El llagut are some examples, operating during the season when river navigation is permitted.
